PLEASE HELP!! FIRST TIME Puppet with Bendable Arms and Legs:

Postby arted68 » Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:39 am

Good Morning Everyone,

I am new to Clay Animation. I am working on my first clay puppet. He is made out of wire for armature (16 gauge) stands on his own because he has large feet. Some epoxy holding him together. Some areas are bulked up in Tin Foil.

I tried adding clay to the arm to see if it bends and any time I do the clay seems to rip and tear. I tried even doing it without the tin foil on the arm but the clay still rips and tears.

I don't have the budget or expertise to build a high tech armature.

*************CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TIPS! ************************ I have tried A FEW FORUMS. No one wants to answer this question or offer any advice! I would REALLY APPRECIATE your expertise and experience with this!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Sincerely,
Arted68

I think the wire you have is too stiff...perhaps you have wrapped too many strands together...

also ..what clay are you using ?

Yep Van Aken is fine..can you send us a image or two of the puppet as it is currently.
Also ..is the room you are using when animating very cold by any chance... clay cracks more easily when it is cold.
