Stop Motion Software?

Stop Motion Software?

Postby alimac2009 » Sat Sep 18, 2010 3:35 pm

I have been wanting to try my hand at stop motion for about a year now but I cannot seem to find software that is cheap enough and actually works. I have been trying to find the software elsewhere but I cant find anything that actually works. Any ideas?

i was also wondering, opinion wise, does anyone actually take the time out to draw out a storyboard before they work on a stop motion video?

I use a webcam to shoot my puppet against a blue background. I then import these still jpegs into MonkeyJam. MonkeyJam is freeware that was designed for cartoon animation, but has since been expanded for stop-motion animation. MonkeyJam converts your jpegs into a avi clip. Once you have a avi movie of your animated scene, I import that into WAX2.0, another piece of freeware available off the internet. I composite my animation with a still or moving background in Wax2.0. I then export my composited scene as a avi movie. I use Windows Movie Maker (free with any windows pc) to edit my animated scenes together. Here is a example of a stop-motion film done this way, using all freeware:

As for a storyboard, it's probably best to draw one out, but I usually just do it all in my head.
